Lot #346-1946 Ford Super DeLuxe Convertible Rest-O-Rod- VIN99A1009274 Unless one is really observant, it's hard to distinguish this '46 Ford Rest-O-Rod from an original '46. Only the size of the big tires or the tilt steering column would immediately give it away at first glance.
One of only 16,369 convertibles produced by Ford in the first post-WII year, this car was owned, restored, and updated by early Ford V-8 guru, the late Benny Bootle, who was also President of AACA (1995). He had a custom frame fabricated to carry the V-8 engine and Corvette suspension. The car was purchased from Benny in the early '90's and later restored again as you see today. A low-mileage Mustang Cobra V-8 engine and 4-Speed manual transmission were added at that time, plus the amazing Dynamic Maroon finish was laid on the original unmolested body. Also it was treated to leather interior in the correct '46 patterns. The original dash was used but updated gauges and speedometer were used. Woodgraining was applied to replicate the exact '46 Super Deluxe pattern. Car has Vintage-brand Air Conditioning and heat, Power steering, power 4-Wheel disc brakes, stereo radio with CD changer (mounted in trunk), tilt steering column, and front seat belts for safety. A new convertible top was recently added and the radial tires are reasonably new.
In every sense of the word, this car is FAST. However, it is very well mannered on the highway and stops straight. This is the first time this car has been offered for public sale in 30 years. Car is located in South Carolina.
